Poco X8 Goes on Global Sale With 8,340mAh Battery and 67W Charging

  • 14 min reading time

Poco has started global sales of the Poco X8, a mid-range Android smartphone built around unusually high battery capacity, a large 120Hz AMOLED display and a reinforced design. The headline specification is an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is paired with 67W HyperCharge and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging.

The rest of the Poco X8 specs are aimed at buyers who value endurance and everyday practicality more than flagship-level cameras. The phone uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 platform, offers up to 12GB of LPDDR4X memory and 256GB of storage, and includes a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation.

The Poco X8 battery is the main attraction

The Poco X8 battery has a typical capacity of 8,340mAh and uses silicon-carbon chemistry. Poco says its internal testing indicates more than two days of battery life under a simulated moderate-use scenario. As always, actual endurance will depend on screen brightness, mobile network conditions, gaming, camera use, background activity and other settings.

Long-term battery health is another major part of the pitch. According to Poco, the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles. The company equates that with roughly six years of regular use, although real battery ageing will still vary with charging habits, heat and usage patterns.

Charging is rated at 67W, while wired reverse charging can supply up to 22.5W to compatible devices. One detail worth checking before purchase is the charger: Poco's global specifications state that a power adapter is not included in the box and recommend a compatible 67W PD charger or Xiaomi 67W adapter.

6.83-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate

On the front, the Poco X8 uses a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a 2772 x 1280 resolution, described by the manufacturer as 1.5K. It supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, 12-bit colour depth and the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Poco lists 1,060 nits as the typical brightness figure and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. That peak figure should not be read as the brightness the entire display can maintain continuously; it is a maximum rating for suitable conditions and content.

Touch sampling is rated at 240Hz, with an instantaneous 3,200Hz mode available through Game Turbo. The display also supports 3,840Hz PWM dimming, DC dimming and several TÜV Rheinland eye-comfort certifications. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 provides the front glass protection.

Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 and an important storage difference

Performance comes from the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, an octa-core 4nm mobile platform with CPU speeds of up to 2.4GHz. It is a mid-range chip rather than a flagship processor, so the Poco X8 is better viewed as an endurance-focused everyday phone than as a dedicated high-end gaming device.

The global specification lists three memory configurations: 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB. All use LPDDR4X RAM, but the storage standard changes with capacity. The 128GB model uses UFS 2.2, while both 256GB versions use the faster UFS 3.1 standard. Buyers choosing between variants should keep that difference in mind, because storage performance can affect app installation, file transfers and some loading tasks.

The Poco X8 supports 5G connectivity and runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Poco also advertises a 60-month 'like-new' software experience claim, which refers to long-term system optimisation rather than a guarantee that performance or battery condition will remain unchanged for five years.

50MP OIS camera, but video tops out at 1080p

The rear camera system is relatively simple. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilisation, accompanied by a 2MP depth camera. The front camera has a 16MP sensor.

One limitation in the camera specification is video resolution. Both the rear and front cameras are listed for up to 1080p recording at 30 frames per second, with no 4K mode in the official global specification. Buyers who prioritise higher-resolution video capture may therefore want to compare alternatives before choosing the X8.

Strong water, dust and drop-resistance claims

Durability is unusually prominent for this class of phone. The Poco X8 carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings under specified laboratory conditions. Poco also says the phone passed a TÜV SÜD test involving water at a depth of two metres for 72 hours and cites SGS-certified drop resistance from up to three metres onto a smooth granite surface.

Those certifications do not make the phone indestructible or permanently waterproof. Poco notes that ingress protection can deteriorate through normal wear, physical damage or disassembly, and it does not recommend deliberate testing, pool use or beach use.

Other everyday features include an in-display optical fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res support, NFC, an infrared blaster and a manufacturer-listed volume boost mode. Colour choices for the global model are black, white and orange.

Who is the Poco X8 for?

The Poco X8 makes the most sense for buyers who put battery endurance, a large bright screen and ruggedness ahead of premium camera features. Its 8,340mAh battery is far larger than the capacity found in many conventional smartphones, while 67W charging helps reduce the inconvenience of refilling such a large cell.

There are trade-offs. The Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 is positioned below flagship-class platforms, the 128GB version uses slower UFS 2.2 storage, and video recording is limited to 1080p at 30fps. The official specifications also list Wi-Fi 802.11ac rather than Wi-Fi 6. For buyers who care more about battery life and durability than cutting-edge wireless or camera hardware, however, the Poco X8 is a distinctive new option in the global mid-range market.

Mini FAQ:

1. What is special about the Poco X8 battery?

The global Poco X8 uses an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is unusually large for a mainstream smartphone. Poco also supports 67W HyperCharge and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging.

2. How much battery capacity should the Poco X8 retain after 1,600 cycles?

Poco says the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles. Real battery ageing can vary with temperature, charging habits and usage.

3. Does the Poco X8 include a 67W charger in the box?

The global specification says no power adapter is included. Poco recommends a compatible 67W PD charger or Xiaomi 67W power adapter to make full use of the charging capability.

4. Is there a storage-speed difference between Poco X8 versions?

Yes. The 128GB model uses UFS 2.2 storage, while the 256GB versions use UFS 3.1. That makes the 256GB variants the better choice if faster storage is important.

5. Can the Poco X8 record 4K video?

No. The official global specification lists up to 1080p at 30fps for both the rear and front cameras.

6. What do the Poco X8 IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings mean for buyers?

They indicate resistance to dust, immersion and high-pressure water under specified laboratory tests. They do not make the phone permanently waterproof, and Poco warns that protection can deteriorate with wear or damage.

7. Is the Poco X8 screen always capable of 3,500 nits?

No. Poco lists 3,500 nits as peak brightness, while the typical brightness figure is 1,060 nits. Peak brightness is a maximum under suitable conditions, not a continuous full-screen level.

8. Does the Poco X8 support Wi-Fi 6?

The official global specification lists 802.11a/b/g/n/ac connectivity, which corresponds to Wi-Fi 5 rather than Wi-Fi 6.
